Russia

An old Russian motorcycle (maybe Ural or Izsh) at the bikers rally we visited just outside of Vladivostok

Road from Vladivostok

The BAM
"Baikalo-Amurskaya Magistral", Baikal-Amur Railroad. Here is where the real extreme adventure started and the bike destroyer.

The first day on the BAM we stopped at a children's orphanage

Bridge Crossing on the BAM railway, this was the usual style for many bridges and some even got worse.

Max and Val, no one knows who's fault it was

Finally got across another bridge, there was probably half a dozen we had to cross this way because the river was either too deep or the road bridge had been washed away.

Being in such a remote area petrol was hard to find but we were lucky because this man was able to supply us with some.

Some friendly locals in a small village we passed through

Mid June and the lakes are still partially frozen.

Usual story, everyday crossing deep rivers we got water in the boots

These rivers were so clean we could drink the water from them

Taking the bikes across the river with the Kamaz truck. The railway bridge guard wouldn't let us cross the bridge so we had to wait all day till a truck from the next town could come and pick us up.

Max and Val trying to work out where we are.

Another fun bridge to ride across, it had been raining so the bridge was nice and slippery.

Nice river

Repairing the bike in Irkutsk, again the pannier frames had broken and needed to be repaired and strengthened

Max doing some negotiating with the police.

Me, Max and Val and the end of the BAM trip, Max stayed in Ulan Ude and me and Val went and camped a few kms from the Mongolian border.
